Pro-Dex Astromec

Pro-Dex Astromec produces small electric motors with high power densities capable of operating in extreme environments including high altitudes, extreme temperatures, and heavy moisture. Traditionally, our motors are used in commercial aircraft, defense, and surgical instruments.

History
Founded in 1967 in southern California, Pro-Dex Astromec began designing and building electric motors and accessories for military and aerospace customers. In 1981 our headquarters moved to Carson City, Nevada, where in the mid-1980’s we began designing and manufacturing high reliability motors for orthopedic surgical instruments. In 1990 a new 20,000 square foot facility was constructed and the business moved to its current location on Arrowhead Drive. Pro-Dex Astromec continues to supply the major aircraft manufacturers with motors that control flight critical rudder and stabilizer trim actuators as well as actuators for valves. Astromec motors can be found in military tanks as well as the Space Shuttle.

On January 6, 2006, the company was acquired by Pro-Dex, Inc., a public company located in Santa Ana, CA.

Quality System

Pro-Dex Astromec has been an ISO 9001:2000 organization since 1994. Pro-Dex Astromec has carefully documented and controlled procedures that guide us through our processes for consistency and repeatability. Through rigorous internal auditing and annual external audits, we retain a robust Quality Management System (QMS). Our QMS goes well beyond our internal practices, and focuses on our commitment to customer satisfaction and continuous improvement. By incorporating lean manufacturing objectives and measures into our QMS, we are using eight established lean metrics to measure our improvements in quality. We track areas like first time yields, on time delivery, supplier quality and delivery, customer returns and associate skill growth to improve our quality and eliminate areas that are wasteful in our processes.

Quality Policy: " Build it Right the First Time"
Pro-Dex Astromec will strive to eliminate errors and waste throughout the production process by developing processes, procedures and production flow based upon lean principles. Our task is to have all prints, routers, production aides, fixtures and tooling used on the production floor correct before production begins. Building it right the first time means that every production employee will follow our written procedures, adhere to company policy, review routers before beginning work and ask questions before problems arise. With efficient use of our production system we will track deviations to this goal, identify root causes, implement corrective action and monitor our success. Therefore, we will all make the personal commitment to reach the common goal to Build It Right the First Time!
